Women in Community – Mairi Girgis

God has called us as His people, set apart and chosen. But what does it really mean to live in community? As we explore God’s church through the ages, and see His purposes fulfilled in our lives, we will be challenged to think about where we fit into His big picture. We’ll explore ways in which we can express our commitment to the body of Christ in a way that brings blessing to others, and to ourselves.

Mairi’s life is never dull… whether is managing a household of 3 very different young people, supporting a busy husband, organising conferences, engaging in pastoral care, endless amounts of driving, or doing a variety of crafts, just for starters, she rarely sits still long! As a trained counsellor she loves to see how God’s grace transforms even the messiest of lives and how the Word of God speaks to us even today!

Finding God in Tough Times - Teresa

Whether it is relationships, finances, employment, illness/limitations, or other unexpected transitions and grief, we all experience losses and may leave us feeling like we are in dark or dry places.  God IS there in the mess, despite how it may look and feel.  How can we find Him?  There is hope!  In this workshop we will look at what the Bible says about how we are to respond to suffering and explore practical applications.

Teresa is from the US and met her Aussie husband, Rob, while doing church planting missions work among a Muslim minority group in Central Asia.  Married late in life, they have been blessed (and challenged) to partner together on the field the last 11 of her 18 years there, and now have 2 lively daughters ages 6 and 9.   In recent months, they were detained, interrogated for several weeks, and expelled from the country for their work.  They are now in transition to life and ministry in Australia.  Though grief still gets triggered over the sudden losses in this season, she is amazed to see God's hand throughout this and other challenges in her own life and the lives of others around the world over the years.  She sincerely prays that you will find hope and encouragement in your inevitable tough times too.

Leaving a Legacy that Matters - Fleur Letcher

As we go about our daily lives as Christians, how often do we think about whether we are investing in things that matter? Things that will outlive us and continue on, generations later? In Scripture we are taught to be Christ’s stewards - using the things that have been given to us - our time, energy, money and gifts - to invest into the kingdom of God. In this workshop, we will look at what the Bible says about putting these resources to work for God's glory, and we will spend some time thinking about how we can maximise them to benefit and bless those who will come after us.

Fleur is wife to Andrew and mother and teacher of ‘nearly' three teenagers. She is blessed to reside in the beautiful Yarra Valley where she enjoys the picturesque scenery on daily walks. Fleur enjoys writing - when she gets the chance! - and loves to study God’s Word and think about how it applies to everyday life.

Theology - Life Giving Knowledge - Karina Brooks

What is theology? And why does it matter? Isn’t theology for academics? All dry, stuffy, abstract theorising? What use is theology for day to day living for Christ? In this workshop we will explore these questions and look to the Bible to help us see theology as the study of God, as coming to know God better. We will then consider how this study of God is one of God’s means of giving life and how this life-giving knowledge impacts how, we, the church live in community.

Karina grew up in an atheistic household with almost no exposure to the church or Christianity. Her opinion of Christians was very low, so, when her husband Rob became a Christian it caused her to search out Christian theologians and philosophers in order to test the claims made by Christianity. This search was one of the means God used to bring her to faith for which she will be forever thankful. She now lives with her husband and four beautiful children in West Gippsland where they own and run their own business. Since Karina has come to faith she has come to have a deep desire to know God more and more and see others do the same.
